For one weeks' notice, is the day it's given included? So if I gave the notice today my last day would be the 20th?

Ohhh.. good question but I'd say so... It's a 5 working days from the day you give in notice. Your manager will be able to tell you but I'd reckon you'd be fine for next Friday if you tell them this morning.

A week isn't a long time to give notice though. How long have you been working there and in what industry?

Less than a year in healthcare. Even thought my contract states one week I'd like to give two, but due to some issues between myself and employer and a new job opportunity, I'm doing what's best for me.

Just be careful that you aren't depending on a reference from them. If you aren't then give the week and move on. If you tell them that you are starting a new position and have to be out on a certain date then what can they do?

Do you have any leave not taken?

Gave them 10 days in the end. Do they have to acknowledge/accept it before it's valid?
