This is a new online service that launched only a few hours ago (12th October 2017) to people living in the USA. 5 Hollywood movie studios have agreed to join the service along with Disney who own Movies Anywhere. They are Warner Brothers, Universal, Twentieth Century Fox, Sony Pictures & Disney. The studios not joined up so far are Lionsgate & Paramount. There is a library of 7,300 movies available on the service. People can use it from a range of devices & services including Vudu, Ultraviolet, Chromecast, iTunes, Apple TV, Amazon, Android & Roku.

When you play a movie title on Movies Anywhere; they are allowed play a purchased title from Google Play onto a Apple device through iTunes & vice versa via the Movies Anywhere app or website. This is only allowed if one of the approved studios is available on Movies Anywhere.

Movies Anywhere is a new service which used to be called Disney Movies Anywhere which is powered by Keychest.

The service is free of charge for everybody to use at any time. But as I already said; so far Movies Anywhere is available to U.S. residents only.

Let's say if this was launched in Europe which included Ireland; would you use the service immediately if there where any plans to open it here?

Free that doesn't sound right all those companies named above don't give away things for free?

It seems odd that Disney will pull of their own content across all their franchises to open their own paid premium service, and then let this crowd have their movies for free.

If I understand correctly (rarely a certainty) this isn't a netflix type streaming service. It looks more like a way to consolidate your movies that you've bought through itunes, amazon, hulu, google etc, and also from this new site. all into one place.

The site and consolidation service is free, and they're throwing in a few movies for signing up, but you buy and pay for the rest.

You still have the buy the movies, this just gives you multiple options as to where you can stream them from.

It’s a unified digital locker system. Like Ultraviolet but better.

Yes, but you get to have your data shared with the member companies for the privilege. Oh, and are still at risk of having your licenses arbitrarily revoked because that's the nature of these things.

It sounds like a marginally-less-stupid iteration on the existing version of UltraViolet - but it's still, for me, far less appealing than just letting me either rip my discs myself (without the existing DRM arms race) or better yet, letting me buy a DRM free digital file that I can play on my device of choice...
