I'm going putting a straight pipe on my b6 1.9 tdi passat . I'm just wondering what's the best way to go about it to get a good grunt out of it not really a boo , I was going to take the insides out of the catalytic converter and weld it back and then put a pipe from that out to the back , what's the best size pipe to use or is the standard size good enough ?

It'll coo with a straight pipe, but not like a 110/90

I'd batter you for doing that...

Grow the hell up. You're driving a feckin' diesel so it's never going to sound like a muscle car. You'll hear it from miles away anyhow.... your neighbours won't thank you and you'll fail the NCT next time on exhaust noise.

Didn't ask for that , I have another exhaust for test anyways but that's for your concern

Fair enough. I withdraw the "grow up" comment.

But maybe have a bit of consideration for other road users and your neighbours....you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear so a 1.9Tdi with a straight pipe exhaust is just going to sound loud....and not a good loud at that. I had the misfortune to have to drive from West Cork to Galway with a collapsed catalytic converter. Not a pleasant experience for either me, or the residents of Cork, Limerick, Clare and Galway!

Sticking a straight through exhaust on a Passat sounds a bit like painting go-faster stripes on...you'll gain about 1hp...

The decibel limit on exhausts is there for a reason...and will attract the attention of the local constabulary. As far as I'm aware, it's illegal to remove the cat anyhow and if you're going to attract their attention they'll throw the book at you while they're at it to teach you a lesson. I'd be more inclined to consider upgrades that might significantly improve performance....how about a remap?

The OP is 18 or something, so to be fair there's no point telling him most people will think he's a ballbag. He won't care. Same as I didn't when I was 18.

Fair enough - but I have it remapped with a hybrid turbo running 210 brake - just wanted to put a straight through on it for 1 the looks and 2 a bit more of a grunt , Ino there's not a whole lot ya can do with the car but just want to know what size pipe ye would use and if ye would leave cat in or decat it

I doubt you'll get much more grunt with the cat...maybe 211 or 212bhp...hardly worth the effort...
The problem is that you'll p1ss off a lot of people with the noise...why attract the attention of the constabulary when you don't have to...

Hybrid turbo, what's the compressor wheel from?

How much more usable threshold has been gained?

What pressure and flow rate are you running now?

    What injectors you use, ARL?

    How's the turbo pipework?

    What IC you using?

I do like me diesels

Tell the truth, you haven’t really got it remapped and your just saying that now to save face.

OP, I hope you've got a Nürburgring and a few 'shocker' stickers on it.

Did you have it dyno'd on a rolling road or did they sticker that came with the tuning box tell you it would be 201bhp afterwards?

Even if it were 'tuned' and I use that word in the loosest sense of the word, its still an old dog of a Passat and nothing you can do it is going to improve the look of it, it'll always look like a farmers car no matter you do to it. Save your money and spend it on 'Neverbeen' stickers instead. ;)

Jays now, don't be getting me all excited here! Next you'll be suggesting border metro plates with extra small font, a massive Van Aaken sunstrip, Agri power/No Reek no Feek/Are ya a good dancer sticker covering the limo tinted rear window, 16 foot CB aerial on the boot, quad Porsche tipped boo pipes with slight blue haze, makita special lowering springs rolling with 1D's/3SDM's, 8000k HID's dipped and full, 30000k HID fogs, full chrome debadged grille with number plate retractor, clim-air deflectors all round, mapped with a hard cut/popcorn limiter :D

Nothin like a lock of agri hai :cool::cool:

Prefer the Lick my Ring variant myself :p
