Planning a proposal

    Good evening all,

I am planning to pop the Q in the next few weeks and have organised a night away for afterwards in Galgorm Spa (being a bit presumptuous I know). I plan on giving the good lady a token ring and book a couple of appointments in Belfast jeweller's for the real thing.

Can anyone suggest good jeweller's in Belfast/Ballymena/Lisburn/Armagh (basically anywhere between Ballymena and Cavan where we're coming from)!

    Best of luck.
I can't recommend anyone in your area, but I did the same thing earlier this year in relation to the token ring.
The only advice I can give you, is to not worry too much about the token ring.
I went into a local jewellers and explained my situation to them, and had one picked out within a few minutes.

We spent a huge amount of more time buying the real thing, which was very different to what we bought thought my fiancee would have wanted.
I spent around €200 on the token ring, which I haven't seen in a few months now. Once she got the proper ring, the token ring was almost forgotten about, despite the fact that she loved it initially.

In summary, pick up something nice, but not too expensive for the token ring. Once the real thing is purchased, the token ring will soon be forgotten about. And dont spend too much time trying to find the perfect token ring

To offer an alternative perspective re: token ring - my fiancé proposed to me with a necklace because my ring wasn't ready. He was thinking of a token ring, but was advised that often people treasure that more than the one you end up spending money on, because it's associated with actual proposal memory. For me, that's so right. I absolutely adore my engagement ring, it couldn't be more beautiful, and it's special in its own right, but my necklace has such a special memory attached and since it's a necklace, I can wear both at the same time.

I was proposed to with a token ring, it doesn't make me appreciate my actual engagement ring any less, and I can use it when I'm going somewhere I don't want to wear my actual engagement ring (festival's etc.)

Definitely keep it cheap, you don't need quality for a token ring.

Pandora do some reasonably priced pretty rings, she could always keep wearing the token ring on her other hand!

My wife picked her own ring from a jeweler moonligthing. He sourced the diamond, she told him what she wanted and off her went. 6-7 weeks later I picked it up, handed over £2,000.00 in cash (valued at £4,800.00)- all stamped and verified etc.

I then kept the ring and proposed in my own time a few months later. Then we went about planning the wedding ourselves and all was in place when it was formally announced.

So yeah, so being the very practical people we are decided to get married as more of a joint decision and off we went.

Funnily enough, even though I pulled out the ring 2 mts later to propose and it may sound very contrived but it was still a very nice moment and we could tell family and friends...:)

I've family in the north and for significant birthdays over the years they've given me some lovely bits from a jewelers called The Steensons. As far as I know, they have branches in both Belfast and Glenarm. My aunt had a ring designed for my uncle for his birthday and it's gorgeous. I've no idea what their prices are like, but any of their jewelry I've seen has been lovely and very high quality.
