    Hi,

I know this is like asking how long is a piece of string.
Lets just say the 10 Acres is on good dry grounds and was reseeded 3 years ago.

How many calves would you run on the land come next spring for the year?

    Thanks

Had 40 calves and 8 heifers on 10 acres this year. Split into 7 paddocks and fert every 3 weeks. Would have to drop stocking rate in autumn to keep some out as calves grow. Heifers were essentially topping after calves, calves in 2 groups getting 1 to 2 kg of meal a day. That was pushing things a bit hard but in the summer the ground had the growth for it and had little choice as am locked up. Should manage 30 calves but be quick to bale or top to keep grass right for them

    Thats some stocking rate.

I was thinking about having maybe 20 calves with 5 heifers. then grow the stock numbers bit by bit, this is all depending on th auld lad giving me some of the lad come Jan this year.
