If RTE got a licence fee increase

    Suppose if the tv licence was increased by 40/50 euro, what improvements would you want rte to make ? Mine are, new idents and logo for rte one, Nightly youth orientated news programs for rte 2 and 2fm, Irish made teen soap for rte 2, reinstate specialist music programs on lyric fm. Return arts program and talking book to afternoon slot on radio 1.

    Could be done without increasing tv licence. Teen soap I take on Red Rock.

    I'd just take all the ideas anybody has for RTE and get TG4 to it better for half the cost. And make TG4 HD on saorview and saorsat.


    RTE could get a licence increase tomorrow if the government either insisted that An Post reduces the evasion rate and / or reducing the fee An Post get based on their dismal collection rate.

    Or replace the licence with a ESB charge subject to two conditions
    a - people could opt out, but the usual evasion fines would apply
    b - the fee is reduced by the amounts An Post charge, and the current evasion rate.
