hi all, want to put a laminate floor on my narrow long hallway,i know that an expansion gap is needed at all edges doing a room, since my hall is only 4 feet wide,i was wondering if i just remove the skirting at one side and allow 1/4 inch gap underneath.,would that be ok?thanks all

I laid laminate a few months ago and at one point in the room I didn't leave enough of a gap when going around an obstacle and sure enough the floor lifted. It's quite impressive how much it rose so don't underestimate how important that gap is!

I’d take skirting off both sides. It’s an area that’ll get a lot of foot traffic and usually subject to more variance in temps. You’ll never know if it’s ok till it messes up on you so for the sake of a bit of extra work I’d do all sides.

Whats all that abt an expansion gap?

Do you need an underlay when putting on a previous wooden floor

turn one of laminate sheets on side and place along each wall ( after removing skirting ) and remove when floor is paid. . Simple and easy way to maintain gap

Yes, just to give a bit of comfort bounce under foot, if you know what I mean. A roll costs very little. Do use it.
