Local lake if full of Pike, but yet very hard caught from shore.

Any tips on shore fishing for pike? Was using a copper type spinner then swiched to a rubber red fish?

Sometime they just tend to follow them in when reeling in? :(

There is an abundance of information regarding lake pike on youtube and elsewhere, but generally, when getting follows, its the retrieve that is the problem, its either too fast or slow or too jerky or not jerky enough. The solution to all these problems is time and effort.

Keep a diary of what you used, how you used it, what got follows/takes, what didnt, when, weather, water temp etc. Make a science out of it. After a while clear patterns will emerge and you can build in a certain direction.

What bait fish are in the lake? Roach, trout? Use similar patterns!

Are other people catching? What are they doing? Although some anglers may not want to share info, if you tell someone that you are struggling, they will invariably start to help and give you some advice.

Deadbaiting is the way to go. Put a smelt under a float and you'll catch them.

Mepps No. 4, with the blue dots.
Works for me all the time.
Don't spin too quickly, give 'em a chance to look it over.

    Thanks for the tips guys.
    I'll try those.

Not many catching them on shore on boats yes.

20 pounds plus on the boat.

Its got bream and perch in it also. Can catch them no problem but the pikes clever then they look lol

The guys on the boats tend to deadbait alright.

Bronze Mepps no 4 with red dots works for me. Pike seem to love it. Nice steady medium speed retrieve.

    What lake would this be?

OP its best you don't mention the name of the lake on this forum

Don't say sh*te on here about names of place just to tell you..

If you want but pike they normally go for deadbait a because it's a large meal and doesn't take much energy in doing so.

You'd need proper rods to cast these out a distance.

You could give it to us as Gaeilge for safety if that what the boys are hinting at. A little pm wouldn't hurt.
