A question about emergency tax

Hiya guys hoping I can get some feedback.on my current situation.

    So background

Last time I was earning a wage was approx 3 years ago, since then I have traveled and worked abroad, as an English teacher to cover food and rent, I have also gone back to uni and completed a Master's, and then i have been helping on a family members farm as they had some pretty serious health issues, thankfully they are recovering well.

I have been offered some temporary work, which might range from 3-5 weeks, and will consist of clearing out a warehouse, pure heavy donkey work.

Because I have been out of regular employment for some time I'm assuming I will be hammered with emergency tax to the point where it mightn't be worth its while to sign off social welfare when everything is considered, such as the long 2 hour commute.

I'm just wondering can emergency tax be claimed back? Or is it just something I have to suck up.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

If you get a job, and sort out your tax details quickly, then you be on emergency tax, or not for long.

The point is to act so as you avoid it.

Yes it can be claimed back. You are entitled to the single person tax credit & the employee PAYE tax credit (€1,650 each). These are for the full year and not on a pro rata basis, so for the work you'll be doing you will more than likely pay very little tax seeing as there's only 2.5 months left in the year.

Whether you're put onto emergency tax or not depends on how quickly your tax credits are sorted out. Once you get the employer number then get onto Revenue straightaway and let them know. If you do end up paying emergency tax it can be reclaimed without issue.

No they should ring revenue with there pps number and the employer reg no. The date they started and if all credits should be applied to this job.

No, they should use the dedicated available online service. http://www.revenue.ie/en/online-services/services/paye-services/add-a-job-or-a-pension.aspx

I have not started the job yet but I was in at the company and one of the girls in the office took down all my details and said she will sort it :)

Now I am just wondering, since it is only temporary work, do I have to go into the social welfare office and tell them how it will only last 5-6 weeks?

Ring revenue. If you do it online you will be taxed on a year 1 week 1 basis. You need a cumulative certificate.

'Regarding social welfare they can suspend your payment which makes it easier to restart.
