I'd be worried about the Medion being of poor quality. I haven't heard anything about their laptops in years, but they had a terrible reputation years back. The last thing you would want is for it to fail in short time!

For me it would be the Omen I think, but the lack of SSD is very annoying at that price point.

Yeah I've been reading about a lot of problems, compounded by the fact that they need to be sent to Germany for repairs.

Might get the 1050ti omen instead with the i7 and the ssd.

    Cheers man

I wonder if it is possible to add an m.2 PCIe ssd to the Omen you listed above? I have a feeling you can since all other 15" models appear to support this. That could mean that you could simply buy a 128GB PCIe SSD and add it on. Having the better graphics card would be beneficial in a gaming machine. (Although I'm not too sure how much difference there is between the 1050 and 1060.)

1060 rated for VR so one thing to keep in mind I guess. Gives you the option down the line. VR headsets will likely become more affordable over the next couple of years.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-GP62MVR-Leopard-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B071F6RVVN/ref=sr_1_7?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1508357918&sr=1-7&keywords=gaming+laptop+1060
    - i5 7300HQ, 1060 3GB, 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD, 8GB RAM
    - Down 27% from £1,300 (€1,455) to £950 (€1,063), delivery is only £6 (€6.70) so €1,070 in total.

A little above budget but thought it might be worth a gander for the extra VRAM and the i7...

    - i7 7700HQ, 1060 6GB, 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD, 8GB RAM
    - £1,155.60 = €1,293. Does not deliver to Ireland but free UK delivery so Parcel Motel will deliver to your home or office for €7 more so €1,300 total.

I'm not familiar with Cyberpower, MSI make a lot of components like graphics cards and motherboards and have a very good reputation on that end (my desktop graphics card is an MSI GTX 970 also).

GTX1060 is significantly faster than the GTX1050, nearly double. It's the difference really between most games at 1080p medium and 1080p ultra.

GTX1050 mobile is still a good card though all things considered. The i7-7700 also trumps the 7300 in some games by a significant margain, others not so much. Depends on the games but I'd lean towards the i7 if you can afford it for sure.

For balance, a GTX1060 + i5-7300 would be better than a GTX1050 + i7-7700 - but minimum and average framerates in the latter would be much better in a few specific games due to the i7 (Battlefield 1 is a prime example).

Thanks a million for all the responses lads, reckon I might go with PC specialist and put one together, as I can't seem to find something I'm happy with retail.

I've one question, is it with getting the 120Hz screen?
My own laptop is only 60 I think, so I wouldn't be seeing a downgrade

don't really know a lot about the advantages of higher Hz screens but most of the talk seems to be about G-Sync which is an Nvidia technology. Screen has to be G-Sync rated/compatible

"G-Sync is a proprietary adaptive sync technology developed by Nvidia aimed primarily to eliminate screen tearing and the need for software deterrents such as Vsync.[1] G-Sync eliminates screen tearing by forcing a video display to adapt to the framerate of the outputting device rather than the other way around, which could traditionally be refreshed halfway through the process of a frame being output by the device, resulting in two or more frames being shown at once.[2] In order for a device to use G-Sync, it must contain a proprietary G-Sync module sold by Nvidia."
