How did she arrive at those two models?

I've driven both of those as rentals for about a week, and I'd go for the i30.

NO Idea I presume she just likes them and is looking for a petrol auto if you think some other model lets know

    Thanks for reply

The Astra uses the 6T30 torque converter gearbox from around 2008 so it's similarly old school. Same as in later Chevrolets.

A Prius or Lexus CT200h outclasses both here by a good margin.

A Golf/Leon/Octavia DSG is worth looking at too if a hybrid is not her thing.

Just to jump on this :) they don't have to be into hybrid tech or want to save the world to drive something like a CT or a Prius. The CT would be more conventional and less overtly weird. If the OPs friend is looking at reliability, a DSG paired with a TSI engine (as a lot of them are) is a relative ticking time bomb,

Yeah but some people may just not like the way these hybrids drive from the off especially regarding the CVT box.

Don't get a 2014 i30, it will be a 6 speed torque converter and get miserable fuel economy. Get a 2015 DCT 7 speed, they're a much better drive.

I drove 160km in a diesel torque converter and only managed 44mpg driving like miss daisy. It changes to 6th at about 75kph so driving at 120kph isn't pleasant if you do any sort of motorways.

The recommended tyre pressure is too low and results in poorer fuel economy but anything higher makes the ride very tough. It doesn't soak up larger potholes as it would a VW or an Audi.

Nice cars just not the most comfortable and far from efficient. Not a terrible car to drive, it drives quite nice but could do with a bit more refinement to make the cabin noise a bit quieter or more comfortable suspension.

Ah yeah, but to be fair an i30 1.4 automatic isn't exactly one for the enthusiasts either :o

    Thanks Everyone

I have persuaded her to go and look at a CT200h as Colm says a way better option

Just be aware the CT has quite a small boot.
