Primastar engine cuts out

Anyone had a 2011 Primastar engine cutting out when accelerating eg overtaking. The local Nissan garages are stumped. Various sensors have been replaced and pumps and injectors been tested ok.

When you say "cutting out" do you mean that the engine stalls, i.e stops running or that the engine management puts it into a reduced power limp home mode? Have the technicians pulled any fault codes, perhaps low fuel pressure or EGR related faults?

Have the injectors been tested under full load? Checked the pressure regulator on the rail?

This happened with my CDI, wonkey injectors that worked fine untill testing under full load revealed otherwise. The regulator was bulged out, an unusual failure

That is if you can get them out to test...!

Yes, the engine stops running and all the dash lights up. When I key it immediately in motion there is a lack of power before the engine picks up. If I coast to a stop, turn off the key then on again, it starts as if nothing had gone wrong. No fault codes are logged and tests on fuel pressure and sensors are normal. In normal operation the engine is fine, as long as I build up speed gradually for overtaking and don't kick the pedal down.

Sounds exactly the same as me so.

Follow the above advise, I spent a lot of time scratching my head too!

Little to go on in terms of a direction. Given the symptoms we can probably rule out a mechanical fault, compression and engine timing leaving you with either an electrical anomoly on a circuit that is a key sensor input to ECU (most of which are monitored by ECU as part of its self diagnostic strategy, and log fault codes when failing) or fuel starvation. I would ask your mechanic to road test the car whilst logging high pressure fuel data and try to simulate the problem. A drop out in pressure at the fuel rail will give them a direction to proceed with the diagnosis...

    EGR faults?

Exhaust gas regulation. Given the symptoms I would doubt the OPs problem is EGR related.

Thanx for all comments so far. I put it into a nissan garage and they think it's something wrong with the common rail or injectors, which seems a bit vague. They intend updating their ideas on monday or tuesday. I think it's a suck it and see job! Will keep you all updated.

If its not giving fault codes and they cant replicate the fault then call it an educated guess. It happens

You’re probably getting a fuel pressure fault which can relate to anything on the fuel system. Injectors and pump can be tested fully on test bench in a repair specialist, the rail can only be checked whilst on the vehicle which is fairly hit and miss at times.

Also just to let you know, some Primastar 2011 injectors can be a disaster to remove.
