Currently in the unfortunate position of having to sell a car on behalf of a person who passed away recently.

The car is a max spec GO! 162 Hyundai i10 as the link to the add shows.

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/hyundai-i10-go-highest-spec-model/16879675

Could anyone please have a look at it an give some pointers which will help get it sold? Not in too much of a rush but the sooner the better.

    Why the bank draft requirement?

Its only been up a day so not sure why you think it may not sell. Ad to me is excellent, good pictures, good description, only thing as I mention that stands out is the bank draft but I am assuming this is something to do with the circumstances of the sale.

Perhaps no need for that to be written in the body of the ad but mention to anyone who phones with interest in the car

The main thing I see where you might find it harder to sell a Donegal reg car to someone in the Pale. As stupid as it is, it's still a reality. The Dubs prefer their car even used ones, to have a D reg.

I'd probably drop the "payment by draft only" from the advert as it doesn't invite interest. I'd also get rid of the "not pushed to sell" comment as it gives the impression your not serious about selling imo.

Thanks a million for the feedback! The car has been up for sale for a little over a week on a different site by the owner hence my surprise at no hits from the previous add as well.

The bank draft was suggested to me by the person who asked me to help sell it on. Understandably in a crap situation so don't want the hassle of having issue of cheques bouncing etc. Speaking of that, is there a better alternative to take payment other than cash which I'd be a bit worried about considering the amount.

I'll take off the line about not pushed to sell though as that was just suggested to me by someone to stop lowballing.

    Thanks again!

Further to my above post, take a look at Carzone. There are a good few i10s for sell direct from dealers for 2k less than what you're looking for. If you want it to sell privately, you'll need to price it for less than a dealer. I know you're going to say it has higher spec than those, but honestly it makes bugger all difference when selling second hand. It will more be a tool to sway a buyer towards your car from a similarly priced lowered specced one, rather than obtaining a higher price.

    Appreciate the detailed reply.

I had a look over at carzone too and based my price off that where the going rate for similair mileage and lower spec is 12-13k thought the 13.5k (now 13.3) would leave room for a haggle. Will get back to the owner on it though.

As a matter of interest, with a car that still has 4 years warranty, does it not make much difference private/dealer? Also would you advise on the best way of taking payment since bank draft was suggested as off-putting here

Its not that bank draft would put people off, its very often the way cars are paid for, but the fact that you have it on the ad may make someone think it a bit strange (when really its not strange at all). Other than a bank draft, a direct EFT transfer would be the only other option

It does actually. The car needs to be cheaper to tempt someone from the peace of mind of buying from a dealer. You may have some recourse with a dealer under the sales of goods act outside of any manufacturer's warranty whereas buying private means your on your own if the manufacturer doesn't see fit to cover it. A dealer also offers the extra convenience of offering a line of credit to a buyer and will accept a part exchange.

A new base model i10 is €12,995 before discounts, and Hyundai often do €2500 off these. I think your price is way too high, as your target i10 buyer won't care too much about the extras.

You're dreaming with that price. 162 deluxe on Carzone from dealer for less than 11k. Drop price to 10k if you want any interest. They had 4000 scrappage off these in 2016. Nobody paid much over 13k for one.

The ad screams part time dealer too, even if it isn't. The DL reg car being sold in Dublin, not putting your name on the ad, pictures taken on a filling station forecourt with the car dripping wet and the paper floor mat in the drivers footwell all suggest trader posing as private individual to me.

The font on the plates also does the DL reg no favours, is spend €20 on a pair of standard plates.

A quick flick on DoneDeal shows plenty of main dealers are currently selling 171 reg Deluxe model ex demo/ fleet cars for the same price as yours, this is just one of 50 or so available. Why buy a 162 private when you can get a 171 at a dealer for the same price.

Or looking at the Hyundai site, you can get a brand new (lower) Classic spec i10 for €12995 ex delivery so you could probably bargain one down to the same asking price as yours including delivery and I'd imagine a lot of i10 buyers aren't too spec conscious.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I've edited the add appropriately.

On the part time dealer, definitely not as I wouldn't be asking all these questions if I did this as a side gig!

Edit: oh and the paper floor mat is from the last service :)

definitely. I was left with writing up the add for my friends 151 i10 and it was next to impossible to get the calls in, she sold it after many bumps for 7850, I'm currently selling a 161 micra for just over 8600, I personally don't think the market is as big for small cars unfortunately , (cheap tax on focus sized stuff and diesel being cheaper is my guess)

Bank transfer. I'd be wary of accepting a bank draft off anyone.

A bank draft will only be written up if the cash is in the persons bank account so it is a very safe way of payment for something like this, its not like a cheque where the funds may not be there, its the equivalent of wads of cash.

There's tons of car scams going around with fake bank drafts, that's why I wouldn't accept it. People lodge the draft, it shows in account but then fails to clear and your car is already gone. Then these people often sell the car on to someone else for cash. The original owner of the car eventually gets it back and the person who paid cash for it gets stumped.

Check the drafts authenticity with the issuing bank. Number, payee and amount.

If it checks out it's fine.

You can also ring the issuing bank to verify the validity of a bank draft.

I tried that with an Ulster bank bank draft, they could not confirm validity.

Bank transfer, cash, or both going into the bank to transfer funds is the only way

Just to update: price has been lowered if anyone is interested!

Honestly you need to go again. It's almost 2018 in car terms.

I think the price is about right now. OP change the reg plates and take new photos with the new reg plates. Bump and spotlight the ad and the car will sell.

Due to GDPR , the bank AIB, will not confirm that a bank draft is good.
