We have a 4 month old cocker spaniel puppy and she seems to be coughing a bit and gagging at the end of a cough and we can't seem to figure out what it is.

We've taken her to the vet and he said she's perfectly fine and it could be just water/whatever as she needs to figure stuff out as she's so young. She's gotten all her vaccines including kennel cough etc. but we're not sure as it's been over a week and she's still the same. She's in good form and not off her food or anything, should we get her rechecked?

They can still get kennel cough even when they ate vaccinating.
Sounds like it's kennel cough by how you are describing it.

Just remember to tell the vets wherever you are going that you think it may be kennel cough as it's highly contagious and they will prob want you to come after all the appts are done or to wait outside so not to infect others there.

Sounds like kennel cough. My two got it after they were vaccinated for it. They both had it on and off for 4 months 2 years ago. Vet gave me a powder to sprinkle on their food which helped, sorry I can't remember the name of it.

Sounds like kennel cough. They can get it even when vaccinated as there are different strains of it.

Headed to the vet this evening and they ruled out kennel cough. They think she may have hurt her throat by eating something (you know how puppy's eat everything) and gave us a course of antibiotics. Back Friday to see how she gets on.

    Thanks all.

I was surprised the first time one of my dogs got kennel cough, when he was vaccinated annually. As already said, its like human flu vaccine - the vaccine only covers some/a specific strain. Funnily enough, the other 2 dogs didnt get it from him!

If the puppy has KC, you can help by giving it some honey to ease its throat. Lick it off a spoon? There was also a human cough mixture I was told by vet I could give our dog - think Benylin - of course check with your vet first - but see link:

My dogs love probiotic natural yogurt, it used to ease his cough, I think - though I wonder if he coughed more so he got a spoon of something nice :D

Just read your last post, so not KC happily.
Puppies eating/playing with Sticks can be very dangerous - another cocker on here had a stick injury recently

There’s a place you can lightly press on a dog’s neck that’s telling it a cough is KC. Hard to explain in a post but there maybe be a video on it on YouTube.

My fella got KC too even though he had been vaccinated
