My 2010 Focus van isn´t selling, probably a dozen or so phone calls but no viewers, 51 days on sale, reduced the price to €3500 for a couple of weeks in the middle and got no viewers even at that. Insight from the knowledgeable boardsies please and thank you.

Take it out of commercial vehicles and advertise it in cars.

Actually it is also in cars, and has 1547 views.

I can't see anything wrong with the ad, and it's obviously reaching enough people (views), so I would presume either noone is interested in the car because of the high mileage, or the price.

Way outside my comfort zone so dont pay any attention to me...

This is a commercial. A company could buy new ( 15K ish ? ) & claim VAT back ( 3k ish ? ) nett cost 12k -ish with warranty from new and some tax write off each year.

In the event of a breakdown of your van cost in terms of unchargeable man hours and customer dissatisfaction probably north of €500. A company buying it would need to be pretty desperate

I'd guess it might be suitable for a sole trader who is starting out. Cant see it making over 2k in that market :(

    Hope I'm wrong:o

The Euro short of a thousand price is off putting if you want 3.5k then price a few hundred extra.

A dozen calls is more than enough to get a buyer.

    You would think so.

Thanks for the input, it seems price is the only thing I can do anything about.

Well a company is obviously not who I'm trying to sell it to, €2000 is way too low looking at the price of others, and if you can get a brand new focus van for 15k I'll take 2 of them ☺️

Fingers crossed you get that sort of value for it

Some of the stuff that comes up on the Bangernomics thread might be in competition e.g.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=104825872&postcount=2107

Keep in mind that Plod can still ( AFAIK ) pull you up if you use a van for social, domestic or pleasure purposes. ( I know someone who got done for it )

For driving a commercial vehicle for private use.
They are clamping down big time, getting very hard to tax them without vat nums etc

The fact that's its a commercial vehicle may not be helping as its a limited market. My father in law has an 03 megane van and would like something newer but the tax office told him if he bought another van he wouldn't get it taxed as he doesn't have a business need for it. Another guy I know had to sell his pickup cos the insurance company refused to insure it as he only used it for social and domestic purposes.

Better hope you don't run into a dikhead guard! But i'd assume if you are a sole trader getting to and from work is included in work use.

Company provides 24/7 365 IT services, so technically I could be going to work anytime!
But thanks for the heads up at least I'll have my answer to give to said knob head cop!

Yeh if you weren't quick off the mark with a reason like that you'd be in trouble

It is a commercial vehicle, and therefore expect to sell it to someone who requires one. How they use it is of no interest whatsoever to me. I have 3 commercials and use any of them anytime. I'm out now but thank you to those who gave useful advice.

Greenlight not verified is a no no for definite. No book with service stamps for such a big mileage doesn't help either. Selling anything of that age in the commercial market is going to be difficult, many are choosing to tax them private because of continued hassle from the cops, as a consequence people are looking for 1.4 to 1.6 engines, you know Ireland, tax is everything. Many dealers are doing good deals on new vans which doesn't help your cause either.

That engine has the dreaded wet belt, has it been done?

It might be worth taxing it for the year as it will allow someone who might struggle to get commercial tax to drive it for the year anyway.

I don't believe for a second that there is any "clamp down" happening. I know a huge amount of people using commercials for either both commercial and private or fully private use and never heard of anyone ever have a single issue from the guards (like at least 5 people I know have a baby seat permanently in their jeep/crew-cab). Its simply does not get enforced and even if they tired it would be next to impossible to enforce unless you blatantly admit it. I don't know a single person who doesn't use their commercial for private use at least part of the time.

Believe what you like but it is happening. Vans are being taken by the Guards on a regular basis here in wexford especially on the weekends. The main problem people are having is that the tax office won't tax at the commercial rate without a vat number.

When you want to tax it for the first time you need to go to tax office with your documentation including -

Completed Goods Only Declaration Form RF111A - stamped and witnessed at Garda Station.

Thereafter you can renew tax online.
