I have an s 80 automatic. Recently it has started jerking suddenly for no reason. Starting off first when travelling at 100kph ish speeds. Now can happen at low speed.

Happens once or twice and then drives normally. At first I thought it might be dirty fuel or a fuel pump issue but now worry it's the gearbox?

    Advice appreciated. Thanks

Is it a diesel or petrol?

If petrol, it could be a dodgy coil pack or plug causing an intermittent miss-fire on a cylinder...

Getting error codes read is probably your best bet....

Thanks. It's petrol. No lights show up in car wjen it happens.

It's second hand....woukd this be covered under an engine and gear box warranty.

're getting the codes read....am I better going to a main dealer or back to the guy I bought it from (not a main dealer)

    Thanks

    Hi,

If it is a coil pack or such then it should be covered by an engine/gearbox warranty imho (and not big money to resolve).

Those "warranties" tend to be only 3 months so I would notify the used car dealer in question asap. I'd send a text followed by a call. The text will give you some proof of the time/date that you notified them i.e. within 3 month warranty etc..

Thus no matter how long it takes to resolve, once the initial issue is raised within the 3 months then whatever needs to be done to resolve *should* be under their warranty

Only if they can determine the problem to be a coil pack problem. More likely they'll tell you they couldnt find anything.

and then its up to you to prove the point when the coil pack (or whatever else) actually gives out.

Yup, might be worth getting codes read at an indy first so you can go in pre-armed to a degree...
