New Type of Interchange!

In the US, engineers have devised a new type of interchange (Diverge Diamond) that could perhaps be used here (mirrored version for driving on left) in upgrades to busy dumbbell interchanges such as M1-J6 Balbriggan and M1-J7 Gormanston. The M50-J10 Ballymount and M50-J12 Scholarstown could also be candidates for the Diverge Diamond makeover. See below...

It’s a nice design. The only traffic queueing will be on the mainline of the secondary road.

Any feasibility in grade separating the 2 crossover points or indeed, stacking the 2 lanes through the interchange?

I can not see how this would be better than a cloverleaf or dumbbell interchange.

I think it's for situations where we would currently have slip roads leading to roundabouts (which they don't really use in the states).

Well, a cloverleaf is completely grade separated and so is better thN this design. However a cloverleaf needs more space. In addition, a cloverleaf has some weaving issues. A partially unrolled cloverleaf gets rid of weaving issues.

Looking at the design, it probably has more capacity than a dumbbell or grade separated Roundabout.

One other thing I’ll say. The risk of head on collisions due to confusion in this junction would lead to this never being tried in Ireland.

Yeah, it seems like it would take roughly the same amount of space as two-roundabout interchange we have all over Ireland (don't know what is correct name).
The latter has the advantage of not sending cars the "wrong" side of the road and not needing traffic lights in most cases.
The only advantage of former seems that it can handle more lanes of traffic, although I am not convinced that throughout will be better.

Also I would expect significant number of motorists getting confused and turning right and going against the traffic, especially given this is in Florida.

    It requires traffic lights.

They have been used in Australia for over 15 years now and are very efficient. They were introduced to the public with an education program and didn’t result in the predicted confusion once open.

It looks significantly better for cyclists than the traditional Irish roundabout interchange.
