My dad has a dongle and has a package with Meteor 50gb for 180 days for €30
Was thinking of getting similar as we can't get fibre but can't find on Eir site. Has Eir gotten rid of these mobile broadband packages now?

To know more ring Eir sales and ask them, I rang them last week to see if they have any reasonable broadband service in my area, the next day, they rang back and they said they have mobile broadband 250G/month for 60 Euro, myself I bought Huawei UNLOCKED B525 from amazon, when it arrives I will buy the sim card you mentioned.
I looked into their coverage map, it looks they have a good coverage, a chat agent told me they charge 2 Euro/1 Gb after 250G. that is totally unacceptable as if you go 500G above the limit that is 1000 Euro, I don't think that is the case as most ISPs have a limit, they make 80 to 100 Euros of your *** and then they cut you off.
A word of warning if you buy a cheap dongle you get poor speed, you may even need outside antenna if you are in a poor coverage area like myself.

finally found it on their site. eir mobile broadband pre pay passes
dont want to sign up to any of their contracts for mobile broadband. I'm going to go with the 180 day pass for a while and see how we get on. ive been running tv and laptop (browsing mainly) using my own mobile as a hotspot (15gb allowance per 4 weeks) the last 2 weeks as our line speed with eir is so bad and its been so much better.

250GB for that price sounds great. Must check it out.
I used Meteor for my main broadband for 2 years and they always disabled my access immediately when I hit my limit. I got no unexpected charges.
This was exactly how I wanted it to work, and they allowed me to purchase a 15GB addon for 15 euro as often as necessary for the rest of the month. When you don't have an alternative you get a bit more tolerant of what is acceptable!
If you need to do big upload/downloads you don't do them at home if at all possible.

I still use them as backup with the 180 day 50GB for 30 euro on a PAYG sim for the few days at the end of the month when my current 150GB plan with Vodafone hits the limit. The options for extra data at that stage with Vodafone would make your eyes water if you think 2 euro per GB is steep. Luckily my 4G router has two SIM slots so it's pretty painless.

what router do you have niallb. I was thinking i could pick up 2 sims for this in case we hit the limit earlier than expected. still would be cheaper than their contract offers

If you had a good speed with rural wifi, why did you leave them, they have unlimited option

Been trying to get on that 250Gb plan myself as my 4G connection with them is good but getting told by eir it's not available / doen't exist as per thread from last week below:

They don't generally have truly unlimited, though I did as an early adopter and there was no messing around about limits. I signed up in late 2015.

Service was delivered over the Three network, and for the first few months I had excellent speeds of 20-25Mb. Then O2 seems to have merged in and the network in our area collapsed. I was still getting a 40% signal on 4G, but no data was passing. The 10% signal on 3G gave me data, but at a crawl. I was released from contract without penalty after every effort to get my speed back to where it had been.
