Hi, my sister's 04 fiesta has an issue on braking, the whole steering shudders. There were new brake discs fitted before she got it, everything else has been checked through, could it be them.

I presume they also fitted new brake pads at the same time? If they didn't they should have.

Sound like warped discs or the replacements were poorly installed.

It could be any one of several things, The only way to know is by an investigation.
Possible causes. Warped or poorly fitted discs as suggested.
Old pads put back onto new discs.
Seized Wheel cylinder on one side.
    worn Wheel Bearing.
    worn bushing or tie Rods.

I had a shudder when braking in my e90 a few years ago, and upon checking, the front disc’s were in an awful state.

Being an engineer I was disgusted at how bad they were, but only realised it when they were removed!

It sounds like she bought a car and dealer fitted the brakes?
Go back and ask them to check and fix.

Yeah, new pads too, was a private purchase, needed a to roll bar links fitting so she thought that was the issue. I'm going to order new discs and see how that goes and work from there, fingers crossed.

Also just passed Nct as is after rollbar links were fitted! Don't think it's bearing or bushings.

Just of curiosity why would old pads cause the steering to studder?
    I know its bad practice.
But it theory would the pads just even out after abit of driving?

A build up of rust where the brakes move side to side (sliders?), would cause uneven braking. So wearing one side quicker than the other. So it's not recommended to reuse braking components even if they appear fine.

One quick simple check to rule out; make 5X rapid successive slows from 100km/hr to 20km/hr without engaging ABS or bringing the car to a complete halt. There may be uneven pad deposits on the discs that can cause the judder that need to be scrubbed. Brakes should be very hot after successive stops, so drive on without using the brakes for a while after to allow them to cool.

Caliper might be loose because of poorly tightened brake pins!?

It was the discs, swapped a set from my other sisters car and no problem. New set fitted. Thanks all
