Hi I am wondering about moving to Australia in a year or 2. I am nearly finished my teaching course which is metalwork secondary teaching in UL. What is the story with the 2 years to get fully qualified as we weren’t really brought up to speed on this matter. Does this have to be done here or can I do it in Australia. Thanks

The Teaching Council will come in and speak with ye in second semester. You need to get in contact with them to determine if hours worked in Australia are transferable to Ireland. You have 3 years to work up the hours/workshops to lose your NQT status. However, you can also write to the TC near the end of the 3rd year and ask for an extension and give the reasons why you didn't complete the hours in a certified school. Otherwise you'd have to reapply for TC registration after, assuming you stay teaching abroad after the three year period.
