Warm oil smell from 08 Mini Cooper - small bubble from base of fuel injector

    Hi All,

The OH has started to get a very strong warm oil smell from her 08 Mini Cooper (1.6 diesel). I removed the engine over and noticed a pool of oil sitting around the base of one fuel injector. I soaked up as much oil as possible and ran the engine again and noticed small bubbles coming from were the injector meets the head.

Two questions if ye don't mind:
    1. She needs her car for work and the engine oil level is still ok and the amount of oil soaked up was minimal, is it safe for her to drive it till a fix is arranged.

    2. Is this a simple enough fix, do ye reckon it's just a gasket of is it best to replace the injector?

Tks in advance for any responses
    Bob

I don't know this particular engine.
But based on experiencing same on other diesel cars.

Engine should be fine to run for a bit, the main concern is fumes in the cabin. (I'd limit driving it but if needed drive with the window open)
Injector needs removal/cleanup and the seat in the head will need a quick polish/re-face. Replace seal/crush washer and you should be good to go.
    Marty.

Very common for those seals to go in that engine, most commonly is cylinder #3 (2nd from left - French engines have cylinder numbers backwards). Its the same engine in Peugeot, Citroen, Ford & Volvo's.

Each injector is held in with 2x Hex bolts, so I'd say these have just worked their way loose. Get your hands on a 6mm Allen key and tighten them up.
