Tyre recommendations

    I need to get 4 new tyres in a few weeks time. Size 225 55 R17

    Called tyreland today and was quoted between €80 (budget brand) and €140 (hancook) per tyre.

    I'd obviously rather go with the best ones possible - and I'm assuming any of the premium brands will be more expensive. Amy recommendations for tyres and retailers to fit them. North Dublin / West Dublin / North Kildare are the areas I'd be in most.

    Be sure to match the correct load rating. 101 at a guess. I've used the predecessor of these and still found them very good in winter for a UHP summer tyre;

    The Max Flange Shield will do a pretty good job of saving your alloys from kerb rash.

    4 x Uniroyals for appro €100 each on oponeo now.
    Dunlop bluResponse for €58 each for a smaller tyre also.
    Some good value around.

    Buy the best you can afford. They're your only point of contact with the road!

    Dave Mc Cann or Discount Tyres are usually good on prices. Both in Dublin 15

    Tyres in Dublin are always expensive. I would try Lakeland tyres up the north. Last summer, just after Brexit I went up and got 4 new tyres and saved €150 compared to Dublin. I bought 4 uniroyals and they lasted me 27,000km which is very good as the uniroyals are rainsport and more geared for wet driving and I'm not the easiest of drivers.

    Anyone bought tyres online? are garages happy to fit them if you come in with your own tyres?

    No, they are not. Call around to get idea about pricing. The new tyre recycling regulations don't help either.

    I buy tyres for all our vehicles on Camskill. I've used many different tyre places to fit the tyres and they usually charge 12-15 euro per tyre.

    For my own car I get the main dealer I use for servicing to fit tyres when it's in getting serviced. They only charge 10 euro per tyre.
