So I'm looking to get a loan with the Credit Union. Problem is, I already have a loan with Bank of Ireland - nothing major, the balance is about €1,300 from €2,000.

I get rejected for overdrafts and all sorts now because the payments on that BOI debt weren't all that regular but they are now. Question is, will the CU be able to see the details of my debt with BOI - the amount and history of payments etc - or will a credit check just tell them that I have a loan with the bank?

Also, does anyone know why some transactions on Ulster Banks statements are blue and others are white?

CU may ask for your credit history. You pay 5 or 10 euros for it.

Don't think anyone here will know if your irregular payments will lead to anything turning up on that.

Most credit unions are signed up to the ICB now. They probably will be able to see your irregular payments; whether or not theyll turn you down for it probably depends on the CU in question

Like others have said, the CU can access your credit history and check what money you owe.

But the CU won't refuse you a covered loan, so you can borrow the amount you have in your shares.

I have close to €700 in 'special shares'. Does that mean I can borrow that amount?

Of course you can, or even withdraw it if you have no existing CU loan. You can probably borrow multiples of that amount. Only your CU can advise you on this. Call in and ask them.
