Jag costs

    Hey,

Looking for some info on servicing costs on a jag. I am considering getting an estate as they are handy with kids and going on driving holidays etc and spotted this which I consider good value.

    https://www.cbg.ie/jaguar/xf/2014-diesel-black-estate-2.2-dublin-59c39d21a13ec

I don't have any experience of jags but would imagine that repairs bills etc will be big?

    Any info would be great.

I don't have any first hand experience of owning one but I did look into buying one a few years back. The things that put me off is that because they are a low volume seller, there are very few independent Jaguar specialists about (down my way at least) so you are at the mercy of main dealers and their prices. I found that Jaguar parts where a bit more expensive than other premium brands like BMW, Audi, etc. Other than that that model XF is a really nice car especially in estate form. The 3.0 litre is a nicer engine but they are rare enough in the facelift model and will have slightly higher running costs again over the 2.2 litre.

At the end of the day though premium branded cars can cost premium money to service and repair. Running costs will be a bit higher than your average car so you have to expect that.

Have you considered importing one from the UK?

Cheers. Havent looked at uk market yet. I have looked at more mainstream brand (toyota, hyundai i40 estate). Not much difference in price with the jag but id presume servicing and repairs would be cheaper etc.

Yes, there will be a difference in running costs. Toyotas are plentiful and parts are easily and cheaply available. Hyundai parts are a bit more expensive than Toyota but servicing and maintenance on a Jaguar is in a different ball park to either of those. Remember that while that XF is now costing similar money to an average hatchback it's still a 50k car when it comes to servicing and repairs.

Parts and servicing on the 2.2 Jag shouldn't be too bad as that engine is shared across loads of cars in different states of tune. Best selling would be the Transit.

A colleague at work had a 2014 jag. Recently sold it due to a lot of small problems. Interior quality wasn’t great so he switched to a BMW.

Personally I like them (they’re relatively rare) but I’d worry about the quality, given the high price.

I wouldnt buy one again! 1st Jag (2011 Jaguar XF-S with the 3.0D Twin Turbo)... .its in the garage nearly every other week! :P

In the last few months (forgetting about standard wear and tear items like bushings, brake discs etc) this is what has gone:

Gearbox - replaced with 2nd hand one at a cost of nearly 3k
Cam cover - passenger side - £200 for part, another €250 for fitting
Cam cover - drivers side (literally a week later) - £200 for part, another €350 for fitting (bigger job)
Gear Selector - sticks in gear and you cannot rotate to change - have to wait 15mins with engine off for it to "reset". Putting off replacing just yet - £500 part, relatively quick to install.
Dash speaker (for indicator/chime etc) - stopped working - not bothered with replacing yet.

the list goes on :D But hey, if you are going to buy a car like that - expect high running costs...
