Hi all. I'm planning to bring my own food to eat on the above flight. I'm confused about what I am allowed to bring as I have read that there are controls at the US pre-clearance. Can anyone enlighten me? Is there a shop after security where I can buy water for the journey? Thanks in advance

The US pre-clearance check doesn't have the same restrictions on liquids as the main security check. Anything you bought once you went airside you can take through pre-clearance.

Thank you, Dial Hard. Any idea if I can bring my own sandwiches? I read that there are controls on fillings like ham or cheese

Pre-clearance is the same as going though immigration/customs in the states so certain food products are prohibited (link below). I went to the US earlier in the year and took cereal bars through and then bought a sandwich after pre-clearance. This was in Dublin, I can't remember what food is available after in Shannon. As Dial Hard said, there is no issue with water once you are through the normal security check.

Last time I went through Shannon preclearance, I saw an older couple being told they couldn't bring their sandwiches, the old guy walked out of the queue and ate the lot :)

From my reading of that legislation, I would be fine with a cheese sandwich but not a chicken or ham one

Yes I made the mistake once of buying a burger at burger king and I was planning on eating it at the gate after preclearance but it got confiscated at immigration as it was technically American soil said the immigration officer. My heart sank seeing him throw it in the bin.

Yeah you can bring any non meat sandwiches with you, and could always but a cup of tea on the plane for bottle of water etc once you clear security

Why didn't you just step out of line and eat it there and then???

There was a sea of people in the room. It would've been a bit awkward doing that.

You really want to get on the wrong side of an American Immigration control officer who can very easily prevent you from boarding your flight. Not a good idea, as they are not known for their sense of humour.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Plus, I can't speak for Shannon but there's another x-ray at pre-clearance in Dublin.

Surely if the burger has the correct visa the Immigration officer won't mind :D

I was on a flight in Australia once and a clown in a gang of lads thought it would be funny to shout 'Oh we better tell them about the bomb!' just before going through security. What looked like panels in the wall opened and all these armed police in black took him to the ground. His mates all got taken in too. What a jester he was.

Does that mean a chicken sambo would be OK?
