IMO he should have got 6yrs.. I'm not joking, a filthy horrible nasty crime.

I can think of many horrible crimes that deserve 6 years before stealing a mobile phone. But, he had so many previous convictions, I agree 6 months was lenient.

"52 prior criminal convictions and 23 of them were for thefts"

Think six years would be fair considering.

    It's a phone ffs.

Idiots walking around in a daze holding €700 in clear view.

    I blame the victims.

    No sympathy but..

...people walking around immersed in their phones, an item that can now be worth over 1000 euro?

George, you already got into trouble with that attitude...

After 20 convictions the slate should be wiped clean, if not then people will discriminate against the thief

How's that work then? Get to 12 and think 'feck it, I have to go for eight more now'?

Sounds like the phone he tried to steal was smarter than him......

"he was not someone who had been involved in crime all his life, the solicitor said"

He 23 years old and has 52 previous convictions, he deserves jail and the longer the better.

Judge Smyth heard that Brazil (aged 23) had 52 prior criminal convictions and 23 of them were for thefts.
Ms Bambury (his solicitor) said in pleas for leniency....he "was not someone who had been involved in crime all his life"

aged 23, with 52 on his docket already...
she's having a laugh that one.

maybe its a cry for help.

phones are not just 'phones' any more. they are like mini laptops. i do think people themselves need to be a bit more careful when using them. my phone cost 600euro and i wouldn't loosely be texting walking down the road.
i think if i had an old banger it would be different, but not today's phones.

    Victim blaming

Fair enuff, let's jail the victim so. But not until we've hounded him with pitchforks and flaming torches.
