    Hello all, researching alot of obituaries, what does T.O.S.F stand for after the persons name?

    Thanks does that mean the person was a nun or priest? or they were just very religious?

    In my case, she was married with children so I assume she was just very religious.

    Third order was for the laity. Same people as would join Legion of Mary etc.

    I understand that the first order were Franciscan monks and second order were nuns.

    The Third Order of St Francis still exists and is active in a number of countries, including Ireland and the US.
