Mountbellew ag College are running the 'distance' green cert course.

18mths of roughly 1 weekday per month. Written exams run on saturdays. About 5 total. That's a lot of time off work, if she can even get it from her employer.

You are talking €2500 (possibly more now) to do it. Will there be tax savings in succession process or are there schemes she will qualify for if she gets it? The farm needs to justify the expense.

On top of that, I found it a lot of work. You have day job, family, farm..... and then assignments etc to do. And it all takes time.

Ring Teagasc office in Roscommon town too as they may be running courses.

Despite the expense and time commitments these courses are v popular so if she does decide to go for it, she wants to get her name down on list with the colleges doing it.

    Best of luck.

Get it done if your doing any farming at all..there's very little work involved and a child would pass the exams

They run the part time between roscommon and longford teagasc offices

    Hi,

Just wondering about the green cert, is it beneficial to have to inherit a holding around 20 acres? Can it be done part time at weekends?

    TIA
