Hi everyone...I'm looking for some info on collar bonded blockwork...what exactly is this and what is its purpose....i believe its 2 blocks used side by side instead of 1 larger block...where & when would this be used?  Any info appreciated.
    Thanks

You are correct - two blocks standing side by side "on edge" to make a single wider leaf.

I've had to use it in a few circumstances but it sounds a bit like you are doing a school/college project - and I don't want to be doing your homework. BUT consider the various ways you might build a single wide leaf of blockwork and assess each under the headings of

    1. Wall finish / aesthetics
    2. Strength
    3. Buildability
    4. Sound transmission
    5. Air-tightness

This should make it easy enough to pinpoint the type of circumstances that would demand collar jointed construction. Bear in mind also that they are a right pain in hole to build so contractors will try to avoid if at all possible.
