Want to bring about 5 lads out for drinks but how to work the tab?

I want to bring about 5 of the lads, that I do some work with, out for a few pints, but I don't want to be the one going up to the bar all night and in different pubs. What's the best way to work it? Just give everyone maybe €50 each so we can take turns going to the bar, or how do other people work it?

Card behind the bar. Settle up on the way out.

Bring the gofor out with you also and tell them they can drink all night but have to do the bar runs to . Simples.

There is an app that you can use to split out bar tabs...

Obviously the answer is give them all your PIN for your debit card and they each go up to get a round in with it.

Are there any pubs with waitresses/waiters in Ireland? This craic of going up to the bar all the tonight is such a waste of time

yes loads of pubs have floor staff, but less so in old-style traditional pubs.

Start by ramping that up to €100 each anyway, and we'll go from there :P

Place where I go, waitress keeps bringing down fresh beers, puts a tick on the beer mat, and when you are done for the evening you put your beer mat on your glass and she settles the bill by counting the ticks.

stick the rounds you're getting on your card, but bring some cash and send the one who's glass is most empty/emptiest (?) up with a 20(Cork)/50(Dublin)
    10(Leitrim)

Instead of giving them 50 each just put 200 behind the bar and work off that in rounds .... Most bars should be happy to accommodate it

Swap the mat with half the amount of ticks?

Card behind the bar as recommended. Tell the barman to serve only those with your business card. Give your business card to whoevers round it is. Simples.

Stick the money behind the bar, and give each lad beer vouchers, let them go to the bar when ready or when they want. Or, stick the lot in a jar on the table, lads will go to the bar when they see glasses start to empty. Dont fret or over complicate it OP.

    1) Go up and get the first round.

    2) Order an extra pint glass.

    3) Put pint glass in middle of the table.

    4) Put money in said pint glass.

    5) Who ever finishes their drink first, takes money from the glass, buys a round and puts change back into pint glass. Repeat.

Thank you folks for the replies. Out of practice going for boozy sessions because of having a few kids in the last number of years. Also, having always worked for my self, i'm not in the know of how people are brought out for the likes of Xmas sessions. And, i know that the likes of my drinks question is very first world, but sure thats why i posted it in a 'first world'/non serious type forum, i reckoned the type of people who have the time to read & contribute to the likes of this are 'first world' type people, and/or probably are quiet accustomed to pub culture.

You're overthinking it OP. It's really quite simple if you think about it.

To determine whose turn it is to go to the bar, you will need three things.

    1. A password. This will need to be generated before hand and handed in secretly to all attendees. I recommend This website for password generation
    2. A tool for blood sample reading. This is required by the barman to authenticate the "gofor"
    3. A 3rd party authenticator. This is another app that you will need to load on every attendees smartphone. It will generate a time sensitive password.

This is the procedure to go to the bar for a round of drinks.

There are multiple methods to determine whose turn it is to be the gofor but all the methods already mentioned in this thread is way too complicated. Wtf Boardsies?

This needs to be done fairly in order to give everyone a chance, no one likes being left out. So what you do, OP, is gamify the process. Everyone is asked a trivia question in a best of 3 round setup. With winners staying in the upper bracket and losers dropping to the lower bracket. A loss in the lowers bracket means you're out of the running.

To even things out and add some pizazz, you will need to place a "get back into the round" token somewhere in the establishment. This token will let an eliminated contender get back into the running. This is not optional, all eliminated players must participate to find the token.

The end of the tournament will have the two best players in a Best of 5 trivia face off! (So exciting).

The winner must then take the blood sample machine and only use it when they're at the counter! Using it at any time before hand will result in disqualification and the trivia tournament must be held again.

Now comes the time when the winner can actually go to the bar to get a round of drinks. The procedure here is:

Using their previously generated password the winner will log into a website that you will have created with a menu of available drinks. This will unlock the website and allow the other losers to place their orders for which drink they want. The losers will need to use their password when placing an order. The website will also keep track of who has ordered and what their current balance is.

Once the order is placed, the organizer of the night out will need to head down to a internet cafe and print out the order and hand it to the barman.

The winner is then allowed to approach the barman and at this point in time they will use the blood machine to take a pint of blood for verification and using the time sensitive password. Don't worry too much about this, the barman has done it countless times. It's part of their day to day.

The winner then takes ONE drink at a time back to the table and hands it to the relevant person. This person then goes to the bar with the winner and pays for their drink using their tab. Don't forget the blood machine and time sensitive password.

Do this till everyone has their drink.

    --

This method is foolproof since it's so damn easy and ensures that no one will overrun their tab. Another upside is that this method is currently used by all pubs in Ireland and you'll have a hard time finding pub goers that are unaware of it.

I also believe that a referendum will be held next year to sign this method into law. Please remember to vote.

    Glad to have helped you!

Go somewhere that does table service and open a tab. 6 people altogether at 50 a head is 300 quid so tell whoever is assigned to your table to let you know when you've gone past that. If you want to move around to different places it might not be so simple but to be honest if I was out with 5 friends for a heavy night drinking ales and cocktails we'd burn through 300 quid in no time so staying in one place should be fine really. Pick a late bar that does table service.

Edit: don't forget to tip whoever is serving ye
