Public transport

So I was following a thread on the M50 and someone said people would use buses from M1-Sandyford if they knew they could use a combination for 3.65€ each way.

This got me thinking, I'd rather use my car than the bus if there was a similar time and I had to change buses/trains for a number of reasons.
I am not worried about missing connections.
If I get delayed leaving work don't have to worry about missing my bus
Don't have to stand in rain/bad weather waiting,
Can sit in air conditioned comfort in the car.
    Listen to my own music
Can relax and not have to deal with other people on my way home :)

so after hours would you change to the bus if it was available or rather stick to your car?

Would you change to the bus if it was available or stay in your car? 14 votes

Do you mean other than the other 150,000 drivers on the M50 every day?

The public transport system is too unreliable for people to consider switching from their cars at this time.

The leap card is a financial incentive to encourage it yes, but until the T.I.I get things sorted properly they won't achieve the goal.

Yes public transport numbers are on the increase but it isn't enough for the government.

The Dublin Bus current service is not fit for purpose, the Dart i havent used in a while but ive heard not great things, the Luas while in my opinion is the best service currently the green line is near breaking point between 8am-9am in the morning but it is extending its platforms so hopefully will get relief with that however Cherrywood coming on stream may negate all of that.

Basically public transport in the city is fvcked

I'd rather be on public transport if it can be relied upon and if it's comfortable. Don't want to be waiting for a bus that never shows up or that leaves me standing on it and clutching onto a railing in a crowd of people for a hour in the morning.

I have the option of the bus to work but unless I'm going on the beer after work I drive as it's more comfortable and much faster. Much prefer my time alone in the car listening to the radio than being stuck on a crowded bus.

I use public transport, mostly the bus. It is a joke in this country. I travel from Rush to Coolock to work. That's 24km or 15 miles in old money. I work 9-5, and have to leave at 7:15 and get home at 6:45/7. The "real time" app is less than useless. Buses frequently don't show, show as 2/3 minutes away then disappear or are 20-30 minutes late.

Nope - my commute is mostly traffic-free already, and I enjoy driving. And not being around bus people :pac:

I live in the west. Would be a long time waiting on public transport.

I only have a 3-4k commute. It doesn't seem worth it to get the bus.

I'm only a 30 minute walk from my workplace now after 10 years of living 20 miles away from my job so no more public transport and commuting costs :D

I tend to get the bus because I don't always have access to the car (I share it), when I do have access I drive in I get to and from work faster than the bus can get me there. There's free parking where I work, and it costs €5 more in bus fare than in petrol for the week.

If it was cheaper to get the bus to and from work I wouldn't bother with the car at all.

Rather impressive peasants who can live on the dart and luas lines

    peasant
    ˈpɛz(ə)nt/
    noun
a poor smallholder or agricultural labourer of low social status (chiefly in historical use or with reference to subsistence farming in poorer countries).
