Hot tv

    Howdy.

I’ve a problem with my Samsung 40 inch LCD in that the screen gets very very hot.

It actually adds quite a lot of heat to the room which is the reason I want to get rid.

All my searches of ‘hot tv screen’ on google are returning with plasma problems.

Can anyone tell me what/which type of screen NEVER gets hot ?

    Model - LA40A450C1D

    Pretty sure it’s a 2009 or 2010 model

I haven’t owned it from new but it’s had a hot screen since I’ve owned it which is about 3 years.

    Hi Op

have a good read of this

    http://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/led-oled-power-consumption-and-electricity-cost

If running cool is a strong consideration for you its an LED tv you want. OLED is brighter, but consumes more electricity and as a result runs hotter.

To be honest running cost is not a concern.

For example, this evening is borderline for needing the aircon turned on as it’s about 27 degrees. But with the tv on I’ve had to turn the aircon on too.

The tv just seems to push up the room temperature quite noticeably.

    Australia.

It was 27 outside but 29 inside.

The other rooms downstairs are bearable but the tv room is noticeably hotter.

It is. Running cost essentially = heat produced.

    I’m goosed so.

I already follow 2 of the 3 tips in that article.

I turn it off when I’m not using it. Even to go for a pīss.

I have the backlight set at about 30% as often as I can.

The only one I can’t follow is size. Anything smaller than 40 inches would be useless as the room is big. In fact I was thinking of getting something more suitable but I’ll wont bother going bigger than 40 now.

Just look at spec sheets. If one 40" uses 100W and another 80W, then you know which to get. Standby power isnt relevant for the heat issue.
