What happens if I don't go to court for speeding fine?

Long story short, I got caught speeding near Balinasloe earlier in the year, didn't hear anything until a court summons arrived stating I hadn't paid the fine, even though I didn't get one.

I know that won't hold any water so I'm expecting to go to court and get a €120 fine plus 5 points. The problem is I live in Dublin and thus have a 3.5 hour round trip to attend court.

Does anyone know what happens if I don't attend? Will it be a larger fine/more points? My memory is a little hazy but I seem to remember hearing cases like this before and the same fine/points being applied to people who didn't show.

Wondering if it is worth saving the petrol/time or should I attend? Anyone have experience of this? Court date is tomorrow!

Try show up and tell them the truth. Recent cases I've read judges have asked for proof from the FPN office in Thurles that they've sent these fines. I.e registered post.

Not legal advice but just keep it in mind

Sorry cannot get legal advice on this forum.
Suggest you contact a solicitor who normally attends District Courts in that area
