Broadband connection - Opinions on these stats

    Hi all,

Sorry for the generic question but I'd appreciate any advice and input on what speed I could reasonably expect on my broadband.

I live in an estate of about 40 houses on the edge of a town that has had its exchange upgraded to Fibre about a year ago. I would be about 1.7km from the local exchange.

I recently got Vodafone Simply broadband installed. They said I could achieve speeds up to 20mb download.

Since being installed, i was achieving speeds about about 12/13mb download which I was very happy with.

The past few evenings from about 6/7pm the speed drops drastically to about 2.5mb and doesn't return until well into the early hours.

Vodafone have tried to change the profile/reset the router and claim there is no issue on the line or the Router itself. Is this a case of too many people on the one line all fighting for resources ? Or a real problem that should be sorted by competent technical support staff and one I need to push harder to get solved?

The following are stats from my connection about about 9.30pm last night when the service was at its worst ( Not sure if the time is really relevant to these or not..)

    Upstream line rate: 1023 kbit/s
    Downstream line rate: 12411 kbits/s
    Max Upstream rate: 4931 kbit/s
    Max Downstream rate: 26710 kbit/s
    Upstream noise safety coefficient: 19dB
Downstream noise safety coefficient: 193 dB
    Upstream/Downstream interleave dept: 0
    Line Standard: VDSL
    upstream line attenuation: 59dB
    Downstream line attenuation: 24dB
    upstream output power: 7.2 dBmV
    Downstream output power: 13.6 dBmV

    Thanks in advance!

It shouldnt when things are good, but when theres a fault present it can matter significantly.

So it appears like a 24_4 line thats set to 12_1 (the profile they're testing) it should be ROCK solid at the minute.

It shouldnt be congestion unless Vodafone are being real twats so I'd ask them to escalate this to a field tech. The two caveats to that are:
    - Wired tests only, forget wireless
    - Make sure you're not competing with the teenager downstairs watching 4K netflix

    Thanks Ed_E for the reply!

They have been changing the profile and have got me to reset and reboot the router but still things are bad in the evening time. They just keep doing the same tests etc. and claim there is no issue on the line or with the router.

Speeds of 2.5mb are even being achieved through a wired connection from the router with no wireless devices ( phone/tablet/PC) turned on or any sky box either connected.

If it was a case where 10+ houses all fighting for the same line speed I would just cut my losses..
