New gas boiler or New back boiler muti fuel stove

I'm living in a 1950's Dublin build, I've gas central heating and the gas boiler (upstairs in a bedroom) is 20 years old. The huge water tank /hotpress is downstairs in the back room and there's an open fire in the front room. I don't have a bath and have an electric shower instead.

I'm really clueless when it comes to heating, i grew up with a Parkray fire with a back boiler and so I'm not too fond of gas. I'm thinking of what options i have to upgrade the heating.

Is it worth removing the massive copper water tank (in reality it only heats up the kitchen taps)? Is there a gas or combi boiler that would replace this and heat the 8 radiators?

Or is it worth disconnecting the gas in favour of getting a back boiler and multi fuel stove to heat 8 radiators?

Also what would be the cost involved for either options?

Any help or information would be much appreciated
