Where to get a VW seat belt replaced cheaply?

My Volkswagen Golf 2007 failed the NCT because they discovered when one of the rear seat belts was pulled out completely, it was slightly torn. My insurance is also due for renewal in a few days, and the broker had told me the letter from the NCT stating I had 28 days to do this would suffice, but they have now come back and told me I will actually need the NCT.

I rang Frank Keane and they gave me a rough quote of €250, which I cannot afford right now.

Is there somewhere I can get this replaced with a second hand part cheaper? I am based in Stepaside.

I have a recommendation for a John McCabe in Kilternan, who is apparently very honest and reasonable, but I have been searching and there is no contact number online.

    Get one from a scrapyard.

    www.partfinder.ie

Not difficult to fit either. The scrapyard would have contacts that could do it for you.

Thanks, but no matching records found when I search with the manual option or using the drop down menu.

There's tonnes of them, just select interior parts.

There's a huge scrapyard near Kilcock...they'll have lots of them...

It's not quite rocket science to fit one...refitting is the reversal of removal....youtube is your friend...

This happened me few years ago with a Honda Civic. Dog had bit through belt and it was slightly snagged.
New one was mad money. Honda dealer sourced a secondhand one and fitted for 125 I think.

I'd say if you went to a local mechanic they would be able to source a second hand belt for you from one of their own contacts, which would save you running around looking for one.

Replaced one in my Avensis where a dog had chewed it up, €20 in Kilcock, pick the best one out, 2 minutes to remove (benches out, parcel shelf forward, plastic tab and 3 bolts) but budget time to figure out how to remove it first

If taking out yourself extend the belt out a bit and cable tie the belt near the reel otherwise it may retract too far and be a pain to get back right. Bring as much of the associated fixings with it (bolt/nut covers, clips etc)

You can also ask the staff to remove it if they're not too busy

^ I assume you have to bring your own tools if cannibalising cars at Kilcock?

Yep, forgot to put that in.

If you're a regular you do get a lend of some small hand tools if your stuck though.
