Salary Expectations

My contract has come to an end, or will do so at the end of the month. I kind of saw the writing on the wall...when the office lease wasn't renewed. I was on a per day rate which was substantially higher than my last salaried role. I sent off three applications recently and have been called for interviews for all three next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but they all want my salary expectations. To use my contract rate would put me over 120k. So I went back and asked them for their bands...that is pretty much all I can do isn't it? I could use my last salaried job either but it was so specialised I got a bonus. I don't want to price myself out of the market.

Take your daily rate and multiply by 21 by 11, assuming a calendar month of holidays. Set that as gross of all the extras that come with perm employment- pension contribution of say 8-10%, health insurance, life assurance, others....then shave off another say 10% - rough premium paid to specialised contractors to compensate for skill and also lack of permanency.

Might give you a ballpark to compare to jobs on the market in the industry and level you are pitching at. Broadly would say 85k might equate to a contract role of 500 per day. Pure guesstimate.
