Milk recording problems

Just got results back from our latest recording.

Fat is a full 0.5 behind co-op sample on the same day while protein is the same.

We are constantly having issues with this, and have gone to sampling evening and morning, with no gain.

It's really annoying as we are now picking out replacement stock to keep, and we really don't know if this is an inaccuracy across the herd, or maybe just with higher yielding cows....

Gonna go back to the recording company again, but has anyone else had an issue, and is there a solution?

Coop samples and milk recording are never the same. You have to take into account milk yields. If your in doubt do a split sample and send it to iml labs or someone else

Yep...used to sample just in the evening but now at both milkings...still coming up short on the fat.

I do notice that the agitation is very poor, but we do press finish as soon as the unit comes off the cow..

I've no issue with the testing....the issue is either with the sampling or the handling of the samples between the farm and lab...

The protein figure is very close, it's just the fat and being out by 0.5 percent is a savage deviation...

If it was a consistant 0. 5 across every cow that would be somewhat ok, but when we are deciding on culls and replacements, it could mean that we make wrong decisions on what we retain...defeats the purpose of recording..

Neighbour of mine is dual supplier and says there is always big solids difference between one coop and the other, one being consistently behind the other.

If the sample bottles are not filled to the top and are transported too far, the fat can get churned Into butter and the sample machine nozzel is too small to take in the lump.

If the samples are frozen, as in stored in a deep freez say over a weekend, then the fat result will be affected and not the protein.

Was the issue just with the fat, or with other components?

Just the fat, everything else was spot on

Are you using jars or meters, are the meters ICAR approved (most are not and are only indicators...)?

The recorder (if manual) should be using a proportional dipper dependent on the hours you milk e.g. 10-14, 12-12, 8-16 etc.

If your cows are big milkers agitate for 10+secs.
