Hi , I was wondering if anyone out there could shine a light on my focus problem. Some time back water pipe burst and it was clogged with gunk. Brought it to mechanic who flushed whole system out and told me oil cooler was problem. So I replaced this and car drives perfectly, coolant is staying clear but has started to disappear. On long distance temperature needle drops down to cold position and when around town rises back up to normal but fan never seems to cut in.Could this be head gasket failure. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I had something similar with mine fan never kicked in turned out the fuse to the fan had blown mechanic said he had never seen one go before and couldn't explan how it happened just replaced it and never been a issue since

Sounds like your thermostat is either removed or stuck open

Could be a possibility as it worked fine up to time the pipe burst and actually then the fan kept running even with key out.

Called different mechanic and he suggested thermostat problem, he said some were known to leak. It’s going out to him on Thursday and will post what outcome is. Thanks
