Just for the craic - as there were few ad's recently were OP's got bashed for having absolute disgrace of an ad presented, so I want to see if mine is any good for future experience.

Car is not for sale anymore - I just changed my mind and want to keep it.
Only reason I kept the ad live, is to see if there will be any interest at all.
So far in 10 day absolutely nothing.

Better written ad than a huge amount of native English speakers. Is it a bit dear by a few hundred though?

Who is judging? Cinio asked for an opinion on his ad of which the price is a fairly integral part and I gave it.

Price is intergral part of an ad, so obviously it matters.

I must say I first thought about selling this car around March 2016 and similar cars were advertised for around €8500. I never advertised then.
Again I though about selling about a year ago around October 2016, and I even mentioned here on boards I could probably get around €8000, but was told by fellow posters that probably €7000 is more reasonable price I could expect.
I quite didn't believe then, but believe now that was true then. Brexit referendum must have huge influence on car prices here.
Then in February 2017 I finally decided to sell. Did fresh NCT (even though car wasn't due - it was voluntary early test) but I though it will go easier with fresh NCT. Advertised for €6700 hoping to get €6500. No interest.
Then reduced to €6200 hoping to sell for €6000. Still no interest and after 2 months ads expired and I gave up idea of selling.
Now I advertised 10 days ago, for this €5350 hoping to get around €5200, but looks like I won't get that anyway, and after reconsidering I just think it's not worth for me to sell that cheap anyway.

But it's a indication for me, that second hand car market in Ireland is fairly dead.

I sold a 08 petrol focus for 3200 a few weeks ago. I know its apples and oranges but still gives an idea.

    Just my 2 cent:

    1. Irish people would be put off by the mileage even though in the grand scheme of things it's not excessive for a nearly 9 year old diesel car.

    2. Being located in Mayo would also limit your target market say over the same car being for sale in Dublin.

    3. 2.2 litre engine can mean extra insurance loading for potential buyers.

    4. More and more people are flocking to the UK for a second hand car due to the good exchange rate which can make second hand cars here seem expensive.

You have just hit bad timing with loads of people going over to the UK with the exchange rate. I see sales of new cars are back 17% for september against this time last year as well. I think there is some fear also about diesel tax as well and all the issues with emissions ..egr, dpf etc - granted your wagon does not have a dpf

I think it's priced right to be fair. Civic diesels are making strong enough money in the uk.

What would be VRT repayment on export?

I guess this car is still is registered in UK...

Only a grand, but point is youd not save a huge amount by importing a similar one unless you did a bit of legwork.

It's a fine ad. Well written with good quality pictures.

And Cinio's avatar matches the key ring.

    That's really cool.

    1. I would get rid of saying " I have a beautiful Civic for sale. You sound like a trader.

    2. You say its fast and quote the 0-60 time. That indicates to me that you drive the ****e out of it.

    3. You don't have the car pictured on your drive, I hate that it screams part time dealer.

    4. As you rightly say the market for diesels of this age is poor.

Heh in fact car is just 8 years old (from September 2009), but indeed, predominant fascination with first two digits on number plate, makes it nearlyt 9 year old now :)
    2. Being located in Mayo would also limit your target market say over the same car being for sale in Dublin.
I'd say you're very right about that.
When I first advertised in in February, I got few phone calls and all were asking is it far from Dublin and am I often in Dublin. No one bothers to come to view the car, as it's so far.
    3. 2.2 litre engine can mean extra insurance loading for potential buyers.
I doesn't really for me, but knowing insurance market I'm sure it can.
    4. More and more people are flocking to the UK for a second hand car due to the good exchange rate which can make second hand cars here seem expensive.
    :)
That's why I say that second hand car market here is nearly dead - maybe except bangernomics range.

Interesting point - never though it could sound like that.

Well, I do use full power fairly often, but I definitely wouldn't call it driving ****e out of it.
    3. You don't have the car pictured on your drive, I hate that it screams part time dealer.
My drive is too small for pictures :(
    4. As you rightly say the market for diesels of this age is poor.
It defnitely looks like to be the case.

I'd say the ad is very good

I'm curious, at what price level would people buy from a dealer for the sake of a warranty rather than privately ?

If it is a long term owner selling a hard to find car --> up to 10 grand
short term owner/part time dealer --> up to 5/6 grand

I bought last 7 cars privately from owners or part-time dealers. Most I paid was 5 grand(and it was the worst buy :D )

I've happily bought cars over 20k privately where they were in warranty, and sold v quickly a Citroen for 14k out of warranty. I don't think you have hard and fast rules.

Note as well as warranty, buyers find it harder to get bank/ credit union finance for private sales and this is a factor with them buying from dealers, as is the ability to trade in their own car
