Why would a farmer transfer his herd no on to his wife's name especially if the wife is earning substantially more than he is?

S381 offset of farm loss or s392 capital allowance against paye income. They might be seperately assessed

    Or

Maybe they want 2 herd numbers

It could be as part of a knowledge transfer thingy that he wants to do. Aren't we all supposed to be sharing knowledge.....why not in this case!!!!

I know of one local farmer that now has 3 herd numbers.....his own, the wife and the son.

It worked well one time, must be a nightmare now to keep all herds seperate, it's probably counted a movement now if you even bring them home

While I agree about people minding their own business I think on an anonymous discussion board as long as no names are mentioned or identities revealed what harm. Transfer of knowledge and ideas should not be impaired by excessive need of minding ones own business and keeping their head down . That is sound real world advice but should not necessarily transfer to a discussion board. It is anonymous that is the beauty of it. I have discussed things here and mentioned stuff about myself that I would never in a hundred years have done in the real offline world to other farmers.
Some farmers are incredibly secretive and scant with information oft times for good reason. If there is a space like this where farmers can bounce ideas and transfer knowledge without giving away personal info or revealing identities then long may it continue. Farmers fill each other with bull**** and the journal does this on an epic scale every Thursday at least on here you occasionally get to see the true gritty side of farming warts and all.
