Opel Vectra cutting out when gearing down from 5th to 4th

    Hi folks.

Just looking for guidance as to what I should do to diagnose/sort the above problem.

Engine initially cuts out when gearing down from 5th to 4th. Upon restarting the engine, it will cough and splutter -- and invariably cut out a few more times, even at lower gears -- until I reach my intended destination.

Then, if I leave it a couple of hours, it's fine! -- as long as I don't gear up to 5th and back, that is!

    Weird, eh?

Any feedback at all welcome. TIA.

I had a similar problem many years ago with an Audi 100 I had. It turned out that it was a small corner of a Wallpaper paste packet which got into the Tank. While I was driving it got sucked up to the lift pipe cutting off the Fuel supply.
Leave the car for an hour and everything was fine again.
I'd check to see if you have fuel at the Carb etc the next time it cuts out. if there's no fuel there I'd check the Tank. if there is plenty of fuel there then something else is the problem.
These kind of problems are very annoying and can take a while to resolve.

Have your car scanned for fault codes. Common for EGR valves to fail and cause these symptoms on deceleration.
