How to clinically get rid of bad breath?

I suffer very badly from bad breath. How do I get rid of it?
I have tried everything , I floss every morning and night, I brush my teeth 3 sometimes 4 times day. I brush my tongue. I used a good bit of toothpaste. I do not smoke, I drink but maybe only a few times a year. I eat healthy food. Lots of fruit and veg, I eat 3 meals a day, even when i eat loads of carbs I still have bad breath. I drink 1.5 litres of water most days.
This is very embarrassing because the people closest to me tell me my breath smells like poo. As funny as it sounds I know it's true. I feel like the smell is coming from my bowel or my gut because my mouth is very clean.
Can I have some advice from someone who can diagnose this correctly, I've been to my doctor and dentist and both said I need to floss and brush more but I am already doing that. I think they were just trying to fob me off because they didn't know any other answer for me.
    Help!!!

Have you tried CB12 (mouthwash)? If you haven't, it's worth trying.

    Otherwise you could try this.
Keep a log for 48 hrs of everything you eat and drink (no cheese obviously!).
Write down every time you brushed your teeth + duration, every time you floss.
Write down if you think there are times when it gets better worse.
Once they see how much you brush your teeth etc, it will be hard to say it's your fault.

When was your last dental check up? A good hygienist cleaning can help.

Doesn't mean your throat would be sore if you had them.

I had my teeth professionally cleaned at my dentist in March

Tonsil stones can still be present without a sore throat. (I'm talking from person experience.) Do you ever cough up small white lumps?

Also some people have never gotten their teeth cleaned and don't have bad breath

    http://www.johnstonspharmacy.ie/kin-gingival-mouthwash-250ml

Can add 500ml of water to that. Good stuff.
Teeth should be cleaned every 4-6 months .

Go for a 2nd opinion, from another doctor& another dentist. If they say the same as the first two, then that's that.
Check your cleaning by using plaque disclosing tablets (available in most pharmacies for a few euros)
Keep a diary of your issue before your consults& take this in with you - frequency/timing/duration halitosis, any exacerbating factors, food taken, ect- try to see if there's any pattern.

Your mouth is probably colonised by bacteria like Prevotella that is causing the smell. prevotella has a really 'distinctive' smell. If your mouth is colonised it will take more than brushing to reduce it. Flossing cleans between the teeth but not in front or behind and between the tooth and gum.
Most bacteria that create bad smells do so anaerobically. Adding in oxygen will stop this. You do that by using a mouthwash like retardex or one with dilute hydrogen peroxide.
A waterpick would clean all around the teeth, more than flossing alone.

If you want to try and see if anaerobic bacteria are the cause you could put some dental wax over the gum line or a mouth guard, go to sleep and see if the smell is worse in the morning.

If it is post nasal drip a sinus rinse like Neilmed will help

Tonsil stones sprung to my mind too. I've heard them being described as smelling like Satan's anus!:D

OP, have you tried opening up wide and having a look in with a torch? If you can stretch the back of your mouth, like making an aaaaah sound when the doc is checking your throat. If you see some small knobbly white things in the folds around your tonsils, that's tonsil stones.

I asked my GP about it and he said the only thing he could do was prescribe a bunch of antibiotics to knock out the bacteria that create the stones. Neither of us liked that idea.

Gargling with salt water helps. As does the gawking from gargling with salt water!!

I never seem to have them when I happen to be at the dentist so never think to ask about removing them. Is it something a dentist would do?
