Allergic reaction?

How would I know if I've had an allergic reaction to a product? I woke up this morning with a rather large red patch on my cheek. It's really red and quite sore. Not very itchy though. I'm not sure if it's an allergic response, just dry skin or if it's dermititis. I've some hydrocortisone cream here but am hesitant to use it on my face.
I haven't used anything new on my face so I'm not sure what caused it.
I'll attach a pic if it helps.

I've put steroid cream in my face before. Just 1% and the smallest bit. It cleared up a little rash I had so give it a try? Or may antihistamine I see people saying they take that when they get reaction?

    Antihistamine will probably work.

Also la roche posay cistoplast balm is very good for healing skin irritation.

Thanks. I'm thinking of going to my GP during the week as it's still pretty bad today after applying the hydrocortisone cream last night and taking a piriton. This is my cheek today for reference.
    Very red and irritated looking.

Looks so sore. Kinda like a burn? Wonder would aloe Vera help?

It does look like a burn doesn't it. It's still the same today. I wasn't confident enough to go sans make up so I'm sure applying make up over it isn't helping. I've a gp appointment for Wednesday so hopefully she'll give me something. Am wracking my brains to figure out what could have caused it.
