it does have some decent desks, but im looking for a nice looking desk, designed for gaming that will last a long time. in comparison ikea desks just look meh and are generally not for prolonged gaming, as opposed to say a DXRacer desk.

A desk is just a desk, they dont really get designed for gaming.

Whatever you are comfortable with is fine.

I've used this for a while, and i like it. Not much cable management or anything, but it's a good size and feels solid.

What features does it have that's designed for gaming? Most office desks have holes for routing cable through. Looking at that dx racer desk, the surface isn't even flat, there is a raised section in the middle!

I got an office desk on adverts, with two cable holes on either end of the desk at the back. I mounted a cable tray (ikea, bit over a tenner if i recall) between them so you can't see any cables underneath etc.

By gaming, do you mean something with with high contrast colours or what? You can always stick a strip of 5050 rgb led along the back of a standard desk. You can even get ones that plug into USB and be powered off your PC. Or you could paint it your self etc.

Its hard to beat second hand office desks, as they can go very cheap

The Fredde is a good desk from Ikea if you have the space.

Never new there was such a thing as a gaming desk! Any time the word 'gaming' is attached to something, you usually get an extra dose of tack.

I bought the below desk recently. As tough as old boots and will last you however long you like. €176 in total.

I've been looking at this desk myself from IKEA. Enough rooms for 2 monitors and extra bits and bobs.

Inherited two IKEA Malm desks and bedside drawer locker from a brother and his GF and plan to IKEA hack them together with the addition of another bedside drawer unit and some Capita legs.

    What about IKEA Hacking OP?

One can put together something very classy looking from bits and pieces from IKEA.

Looks nice but you might want to make sure that your PC tower can fit on that stand or perhaps the stand is removable?

I just bought a basic desk from ikea about 8 years ago, no frills but it's wide and long. At the time I was moving jobs so it had to be simple but it has served me really well and has survived about 4 dismantles for house moves. I think it was called the Fredrik desk:

Are there any space saving type desks that don't accommodate a monitor? Ie, one to plop in front of a tv and remove/fold away when not needed?

I was looking at that myself, had the wife convinced to buy it and everything, then we went to Ikea and saw it in person.
It is a ****ty, flimsy, useless and impractical desk (imo). I would highly suggest you go look at it in person before you buy it. Bring a laptop (if you have one) grab a chair and sit at the desk and see what you think.

    I have this one: http://www.ikea.com/ie/en/products/desks/desk-computer-desks/alex-desk-grey-art-90260710/

Works perfectly for me. Good depth, so plenty of space between monitor and keyboard. Wide, enough room for 2 27" monitors side by side and space left over. Good leg space. Sturdy too.

Dunno what is supposedly so special about a "gaming" desk, just sounds like marketing gimmicks to me.

I find it great, no room for the tower at the bottom though so have it at the top but that was my only complaint.

    I have this http://www.ikea.com/ie/en/products/desks/desk-computer-desks/malm-desk-black-brown-art-00214157/

Currently have it setup with the tower on top of desk and still comfortably fits my two 21 inch screens.

There's also plenty of space to put the tower on the floor inside the leg space if you needed space for larger screens.

Its not a small desk though and is awkward enough to move around once fitted together.

Have the same one and I can agree it's not small. :)

Looking to move to something more compact.

Can anyone recommend a corner desk that can take a large monitor (27 inch+)?

Was looking at something like the IKEA Micke but don't think there's enough space

If your looking for a case too you could get a desk case via overclockers something like a vector Vd01, lian Li make sometoo. Cost a pretty penny though ;)

Pretty much anything that is sold with the prefix "Gaming" can be dismissed as overpriced crap.

"But it's got ribs and knobs and led's, with added xtreme!"

Buy yourself a decent "desk". You'll have far better quality gear to show for it on an equal spend.

Jesus H-Christ all those desks are manky looking.

Got this basic thing for my PC

OP, get yourself a nice Metal legged Cantilever.

I have one that I've been using for the last 13 years, surviving 4 home-moves and an average of 5-7 hours use every single day (i'm a hermit).
Good thick wood, resin varnished, built like a brick ****house.
It's as good as the day I bought it.

    Function over form every day.

Holy crap they're expensive for a few sheets of crappy particle board.

Yeah, pretty much. They were on sale when I bought them though

That being said I needed to get 2 desks, without shelves or drawers and a very specific length to depth ratio, so they were one of the only options given the size of the room. Not saying anyone should by them, just saying a desk is a desk is a desk. The fact the depth of the 2 matched up and fit wit h1 of them in a corner was a selling point, given my new tiny, tiny house :/

Most of the cr@p shelves and drawers are hangovers from the 90s when you needed somewhere to put your CD jewel cases and game manuals and Windows XP guide book. I have f**k all on/in/around my desk now compared to a decade ago

Bargaintown have a few good desks as well. I got the Super Landa and it's nice and sturdy with plenty of storage as well.

I have this sorta setup: http://www.ikea.com/ie/en/products/desks/desk-computer-desks/kallax-desk-combination-white-spr-09123087/

I didn't bother with the middle legs and bodged it together with some brackets. The desk holds 3X24" monitors on a heavy stand, my full tower, a mixing desk and a pile of crap :D It's the main storage in my flat too.

I got this a couple of months ago for €100. It is really solid. I have my tower laid on its side on the floor under the drawers. I would imagine if you went to a Woodies you will see on setup. I used a Duronic Monitor Stand to mount 2 x 20" Monitors.

By far the best in the thread so far I think, I've the same one and got it on adverts for €50. Very deep desk which is what's important to me, and rock solid as well.

that one reminds me too much of my work desks so I went with this L-shaped desk
