    Hey
I have recently become engaged but am a
Little nervous about the wedding dress search. Having been bridesmaid a number of times I'm dreading the search for a wedding dress as I know most places only have certain sized dresses to try on and I really don't want to finish up crying as I'm buying my dress- I will only have this experience once and want to have a positive one.

Does anyone know of any bridal places that cater for the larger bride. Also one that's not astronomical in price. Trying to keep costs as low as possible for the wedding
Any help will be greatly appreciated
    Thanks a million
Am based in Leinster but can travel

I know that McElhinneys do plus size. Not sure about the price but I think it's the going rate for dresses.

Ruben Bridal in Kildare, it's where I got my dress and it was the most amazing experience. I never once felt upset or self conscious, the ladies are so funny and warm and they were so professional too :) best of luck!

+1 for Ruben. Also, something I recently found out is that the vast majority of dress designers supply all sizes right up as far as a 34 or something, so they can be gotten, it's more a case of finding a bridal shop that has sample dresses in larger sizes. My advice is ring or email before you go to a shop, and just ask what size range they do their sample dresses in. You'll still have a good idea if a dress will look nice on you if the sample is a size or two too small, but if all their samples are a size 12 and you're a 22 then there's no point going to try them on.

I got my bridesmaids dresses from Ruben also, because I had 3 ranging in size from a 6 up to a 20, and the ladies were really helpful in finding a style that looked good on all 3 of them.

An acquaintance of mine works there (she's in some of the photos- full disclosure!) but they seems awesome and very into women having a great experience whilst shopping for "the dress".

They are in Belfast, so not sure if you want to travel that far but with a decent exchange rate, might be perfect.

Thanks for the replies guy. Will definitely try Ruben and if there fails I've nothing to lose my taking a day trip to Belfast.
Thanks!! I am so excited about wedding but dreading the dress shopping experience. I don't want my happy experience to be ruined by tears and disappointment

I found Ruben bridal to be great as I had the opportunity to try on loads of different styles of dresses. I went to another place and I was basically given the dresses I would fit into!

I found my style of dress in Ruben and ended up buying it on Ebay for a fraction of the cost. Including alterations and a few tweaks (different belt, tulle skirt etc.) my dress still came in at about a third of the price of the Ruben bridal dress. It is worth looking into if you are on a tight budget.

Unfortunately the place I got mine in Cavan has shut down - she was fabulous, never once asked me for my size or made any deal whatsoever about the fact that I was buying a plus-size dress! I went to another place before hers and the woman was very rude about my weight. Had actually spotted a STUNNING dress there that fit me perfectly, and was €200 cheaper than the one I eventually bought, but I wouldn't satisfy her with the custom!

Any reputable establishment will not leave you disappointed. They will be able to gauge a size from sight or measurements without asking and will only let you try on what they know will fit. Try to relax and enjoy it, I was so, so worried about my fitting in Cavan where I found my dress - but due to the care and professionalism, the only tears to be seen was when I found "It" :o

I'm wondering about the places in Cavan now!
Had a great experience in one place(now closed I think) and in the other, she didn't even show up for the appointment( eventually turned out she fecked off with deposits on other clients). Wonder if they're the same place

Erika's was where I got mine. She is closed but I think she's still selling sample dresses from home. Not 100% sure on that.
I remember hearing about yer one alright, she cleared the country and took all the cash with her I think! :pac:

Another idea might be to find a decent seamstress, design and have your very own custom dress made! Worth a shot?

Yes ShaSha it was Erika's I was talking about being great :)
My mam knows her, I'm not sure if she's still working from home or not.
The other place was a woman in Virginia working out of her garage. She had a dress I really wanted to try, kind of glad she didn't turn up now!
