Looking for info in regards to car tax. Bought a car 2 weeks ago and still havent got the log book back. You can't tax a car without it at least thats as far as I know but maybe someone knows otherwise? Also does anyone know if gardai give leeway in these situations? Ive been told they allow a week and also been told they give a month.

    Thanks.

Who did you buy the car off of - a dealer or a private seller? Was it a new car, second hand Irish car or import were you are the first Irish owner? Did you put the reg number into the motor tax website and see if ownership has transferred?

Bought private 2nd hand. It's an irish car and has had 2 previous owners. Motortax.ie tells me ownership changed the 16th of this month so I would have thought it would be here well be now.

Can it be done over the phone? Unable to login to the website as I don't have the pin.

Maybe an obvious question but was the address on the change of ownership section correct?

I wouldn't tax it online yet as the tax disc may be posted out to the same incorrect address too.

Use the request pin option on the Motor tax website. Pretty sure you have to fill in the registered address and it will only email the pin if it matches the registered address.

That's a bit long to be waiting.

2 issues here .lost log book and need to tax.
You can tax it without log book in your local MTO.
You will need an rf134 stamped by Gardai to get a new life book. Mark it as not received in post and it will be free.
You could call your local MTO who might give you the pin number so you can tax it online. You can correct the address if it's wrong.
