    hi
we're in a new house and from the backroom to the garden there is a decking step which is on its last legs and we need to change it asap. i think there are a few blocks underneath which may have been there originally but the decking covers a bigger area than the blocks. we are hoping to just get rid of the decking step and replace the same area with concrete. so ive been looking at other threads on here and i'm hoping i can give it a go! have a few questions i hope i can get advice on here.
i need cement mix, sand and gravel, mixed in a ratio of about 1:2:3/4 (and some water) right?
renting a mixer is essential for this??
how long should it take to dry fully??
i think it will be about 4.5 cubic feet, so how many bags of stuff would i need?
    any other advice?!

    thanks!

If your near b&q they sell a gravel/sand mix for doing concrete, I think it's €2.50/bag. Just add cement, 1:5 ratio.

I would bother with a mixer for a small batch, 4 flexi buckets worth. Hard work but not impossible by hand. Mixer may give you a better consistancy.

Another option might be to form the step in concrete and mortar on some paving slabs to the top, gives a nice look.

Vibrate the mold to release the air bubbles, holding a hand sander against it will do the job.
