Some great advice and recommendations here and would really appreciate your opinion please.

I'm currently driving a 131 i30, 1.6 diesel, it's been really good to me but I'm ready to change.

What I like about the i30...
It's cheap to run, both fuel and servicing
    Nice spec, cruise control etc
The 5 yr warranty. I have used it twice for fixes with no issues.
I like the hatchback and the ability to drop the back seat for very large items

    Limitations
Have started to get into camping and there is a lot of stuff, the hatchback is great but not the biggest boot

My annual kms are 35k with a daily total commute of around 100km

I'm not averse to a hybrid but I don't think it would suit

Max budget of around 18k plus the value of the i30

A consideration - camping is great but in a year or two we might get a caravan. A car with the horsepower and torque to pull a caravan might be useful but its not the main thing right now.

Hyundai are launching an i30 tourer in October but I don't know anything about the spec yet.

Is there scope for a good deal around this time of year (172) or am I better off waiting for 181?

If I have missed anything please shout and thanks a million.

Have a look at the Kia Optima SW estate. Boot should be able to hold camping gear no problem and it should have enough power to pull an average sized caravan. The Optima is the sister car of the Hyundai i40 but got a makeover in 2016 so feels more uptodate than the i40.

See if you can find a 171 or 172 demo model, will still have the balance of the 7 year warranty and should be cheaper than a brand new one.

    For example:

Nice suggestion on the Optima, I hadn't thought about it previously. I like the i40 but it must be due for a refresh soon.

    Have you considered the Ioniq?

Not fully but I would definitely take a look. For some reason I'm drawn to the plug in hybrid rather than the traditional. How would the Ioniq deal with a caravan?

The Ioniq comes with three different drive-trains. There is the fully electric Ioniq, the Hyprid and the PHEV version.

No idea what it would be like with a caravan do.

Renault Megane or Kadjar are my suggestions and Renault's come with 5 year warranty"s now as well.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

The Megane sport tourer looks very nice. I didn't know about the five year warranty. Thanks for the advice.

Not sure they are rated to tow actually, I missed that line above.

The hybrid or the BEV are the way to go IMO. If you buy the PHEV it's too expensive for a hybrid and you don't have enough BEV only range to make the fuel savings.
