We've been nearly three years in the waiting, but I think heavy going specialist Theophilus has a cracking chance in what looks to be a wide open handicap hurdle race at Gowran 4:35 today. Still only 6 years of age, it feels like this one has been around for a lot longer than that as it won one of those rare 3 year old hurdle races (its only victory over hurdles) at first attempt way back in 2014. It subsequently finished 2nd over hurdles on two further occasions (again on heavy going) at much higher ratings than it's at today. Horse has the heavy ground where it has shown most today and the booking of Davy Russell is indicative of its chances.

14/1 best price represents good value.

Cheers - I've gone for Davy and a TKO in Round 1.

Dundalk 8:00 - this is about the best race you will see at Dundalk this year with a whole pile of good horses in this high quality group 3. Absolute Blast was a horse I identified at the start of this year as one to follow and it hasn't disappointed in the least, particularly over the AW. With 10 all weather runs under its belt, it's won 4, come 2nd in 4 and 3rd in two, so course and distance should suit. While I like it and think it's got a good chance at placing, I think in terms of class, Long Island Sound at the same price is just better value at the same price of 8/1. With three wins from three over AW, including this very same race last year, and some good performances running in high class races in the US over good/firm ground, I think it should run a good race, although given the open nature of this, as an 8/1 e/w punt.
